You know when you are driving during those cold winter days. You feel safe and warm in your car and you can see the path clear in front of you. Your cruising along, not paying much attention to what is all around, because you have been on this path many times, without any trouble. Then out of nowhere you are spinning out of control. It happens pretty quickly, but it seems like you are going in slow motion. All you can do is breath and pray your way through it, don't panic, and slow down, and what ever you do DON'T SLAM ON THE BRAKES!!
When it is over your left looking in a completely different direction than you were before. Somewhere perhaps you don't want to be, but you know you have to get going back in the right direction. Though it is a little hard to do, because now you are scared, timid, and vulnerable. What if it happens again? What will the warning signs be? Why didn't I see them before?
All you can do is slowly get back on your path and head out. This time a lot more cautious and no more cruise control.
Right now I am getting on that road again.
Very much like black ice. It's the perfect description. You are an amazing writer and friend.
